New Long-term Strategy For Education Reform Released

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government has released a new long-term strategy to guide education reform, providing a roadmap for the education system through to 2030.

The strategy, called Education TOGETHER: Transforming learning through collaboration, delivers on the findings of the Independent Education Review by bringing together existing commitments from across the system into four key priorities:

* Delivering a skilled and sustainable education workforce;

* Building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy;

* Delivering stronger, more collaborative structures across our schools; and

* Outlining a shared vision for educational success and clear pathways to achieve it.

The Tasmanian Government is getting on with the job of delivering on these important priorities, including through our work on lifting literacy, strengthening numeracy, the ongoing trial of multi-school organisations and the implementation of stronger wellbeing supports for school staff.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said this new strategy is the next step in our ongoing commitment to build an even better education system.

"Over the past decade we have upgraded schools, built new schools, changed the law to keep young people in education or training, and extended all high schools to Year 11 and 12," Minister Palmer said.

"Education TOGETHER builds on the strong foundations our Government has laid.

"The plan primarily guides government school reform, with ongoing collaboration and alignment with Catholic and independent sectors also playing an important role in achieving the strategy's targets.

"This is such an exciting step forward for the future of our education system, and I look forward to working right across the sector to deliver the strong outcomes our students deserve."
