And for many, it's been about the rain and the storms over the weekend that are actually tapering off and relaxing back across the southern half of the country. We're starting to see the influence of this high down here, as it really elongates itself across the southern states, bringing a slightly more benign weather pattern down there.
But more moisture, more rain, more storms across central and northern Australia on Tuesday, and in the afternoon that will once again spread to parts of Queensland. So plenty more action in our weather maps for the second half of the day tomorrow. Let's fly around the grounds.
Starting up in Queensland, and the last week has been about lots of cloud cover, lots of widespread rain and cold temperatures. It's a little bit different this week. It's more like a typical spring storm day tomorrow, and that means plenty of sunshine, warmer weather, more humid weather. And then in the afternoon, those storms pop up here and there. But there should be some gaps in between, so no guarantee of a thunderstorm tomorrow. But we will see hit-and-miss stormy weather across much of the state as we push into the afternoon. There is even a chance of some severe thunderstorms, with damaging wind, large hail or heavy rainfall. Mostly north of Brisbane, up towards Bundaberg and Rockhampton, and also inland through parts of the Northern Downs, the Central Tablelands and out towards the Central West. So keep an eye on those severe thunderstorm warnings during the afternoon tomorrow.
Down to New South Wales, we will have often cloudy skies, or at least partly cloudy skies, and a couple of showers up and down the east coast. We're not expecting big rainfall numbers in our rain gauges, but we could see between 2 and 8 mm for many along here, including around the Sydney area. And some mild maximum temperatures as well, in the low 20s. For most on and west of the mountain ranges, it will be a dry day. Cloudy at times, but there should be plenty of sunshine as well. That's the story for Canberra. A cool start at 3 degrees, then an afternoon high of 18.
Very hot last week in Victoria, then all that rain through the weekend, and now it's something different again. It's much cooler across the state. We've got south-westerly winds keeping our maximum temperatures really capped in the teens, our minimum temperatures in the single digits as well. There'll be a few showers across Victoria on Tuesday, mostly in the west and the south, and mostly less than 2 mm. Not big rainfall, but you could see a couple of passing light spots of rain across the state.
That same cool wind for Victoria is also affecting Tasmania. So temperatures here are also in the teens, and in the morning and again in the evening, those temperatures are falling into the single digits. There will be some showers throughout the day across the west coast. Just a low chance of showers elsewhere, probably not seeing any rainfall at all. Or if you are, it's very, very brief, but there will be at least partly, if not mostly, cloudy skies for Hobart and across most of the north coast as well.
We see some slightly mild maximum temperatures for South Australia as well, particularly across our southern districts, around the peninsulas, around Adelaide, the ranges and down towards the south-east. A southerly wind will bring a little bit of showery weather through the south-east to Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, maybe the Mount Lofty Ranges as well as Kangaroo Island, but we shouldn't see much wet weather elsewhere. Adelaide, low chance of any rainfall and should see plenty of sunshine, but you've just got that max temp at around 20. Further north, a couple of storms possible over the outback, mostly north of Marree.
Warming up in Perth after a cool and wet start to the week on Monday, 27 degrees and sunshine. It might get a little bit breezy at times. It should be bright and sunny across all of these southern districts, with a few showers and possible storms over the outback and maybe extending out towards the west coast around the Geraldton area. Further north from there, it's also looking bright, but much warmer around the northern parts of the Gascoyne, as well as the Pilbara districts.
Plenty of storms tomorrow across the Territory. They really could affect almost any part of the district, and for the south, including around Alice Springs, there's a chance of some severe thunderstorms. So maybe some heavy rain there could get the Todd River flowing, maybe some hail, even possibly around Alice. And certainly the risk of some wind gusts in the mix down here as well. We don't see that same risk of severe thunderstorms up north, but certainly some afternoon showers and potential for some storm activity across the Top End here, including around the Darwin area. Of course, that is warm at this time of year. Well, all year, but warm until those storms kick in, and then the temperature can drop several degrees as the rain arrives.
