Works to build a new state-of-the-art ambulance station in Longford are underway, as part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government's plan to deliver new and improved health facilities across the State.
Tasmanian construction firm AJR Construct has been awarded the contract to deliver the facility at 20 Union Street, Longford, supporting local jobs and the economy.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the new station would deliver modern, safe and efficient facilities for our paramedics and volunteers to support their lifesaving work.
"The new and upgraded state-of-the-art station will feature a two-bay ambulance garage, dedicated volunteer training facilities, and improved infection control measures," Minister Archer said.
"The strategic location at Union Street will provide better access for ambulances entering and leaving the site, helping to improve response times for callouts in the region.
"Our Government is delivering new health infrastructure across the State, with new ambulance stations already completed at Campbell Town, Bridgewater, Beaconsfield, Oatlands, Queenstown, Burnie, and Glenorchy.
"Construction is also underway on the new ambulance station at Bicheno, with more new stations planned at King Island, Legana, Cygnet, and Snug."
The modern facility will replace the existing station at Smith Street, which is no longer fit for purpose.
The Tasmanian Government has invested $4.5 million to deliver the new station, with construction expected to take approximately 12 months, and operational readiness expected in early 2027.
