An initiative led by Flinders University is building links between researchers, clinicians and industry professionals working across the diverse and rapidly evolving field of lipid science.

Lipid research investigates the structure, function and metabolism of fats, covering their roles in health, disease and cellular processes. Emerging research areas include nutrient regulation, cardiovascular health, lipidomics and biomarker discovery to understand, prevent or treat disease.
The Lipid Network is a new international, community-driven platform that brings together researchers and stakeholders across disciplines including biochemistry, clinical lipidology, microbiology, agriculture and environmental science.
The new online hub facilitates knowledge exchange, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, and highlights emerging research and innovation in lipid science.
"The Lipid Network is connecting and empowering the global lipid research community," says Associate Professor Bart Eijkelkamp, Flinders University researcher and Lipid Network President, who addressed the official launch of project this month.
"It provides a dedicated, inclusive platform designed to connect the global lipid community, foster collaboration, and support the next generation of scientists," he says.
"The new centralised, accessible platform is uniting the lipid research community and also aims to bridge gaps between disciplines, career stages and geographic regions."

The Flinders University launch event, also opened by Flinders College of Science and Engineering Dean of Research Professor Mark Taylor, brought together members of the research community across South Australia to highlight the importance of collaboration in advancing lipid science.
The Lipid Network strengthens the global lipid research community by enabling collaboration across academia, industry, and clinical sectors, showcasing research and opportunities, and supporting early- and mid-career researchers.

It provides access to awards, including publication awards, while maintaining a free and accessible membership model - helping to accelerate innovation in lipid science worldwide.
The Lipid Network has been supported by sponsors including Waters Corporation, the National Deuteration Facility at ANSTO, Flinders University and the Australian Academy of Science.
"Their commitment to advancing scientific research and fostering community initiatives has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life," says Associate Professor Eijkelkamp.
Researchers, students, and professionals are invited to join The Lipid Network by registering any prior experiences with lipids for free at www.lipidnetwork.com.
