New Phase of Medicare Urgent Care Clinics Launches

Department of Health

Since 2023, the Australian Government has established more than 134 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (Medicare UCCs) to help ease the pressure on emergency departments and make it easier for Australians to see a doctor or nurse when they require care for urgent, but not life-threatening health conditions.

This is part of the Australian Government's commitment to deliver Medicare UCCs across the country; when all are operational, 4 out of 5 Australians will live within a 20-minute drive from their local clinic. Since the first site opened in June 2023, Medicare UCCs to date have seen more than 2.7 million presentations.

Building on the success of previous phases, phase 3 of the campaign continues to promote increased access to bulk‑billed urgent care by supporting the rollout and operation of 50 new Medicare UCCs across Australia in 2025-26, while raising awareness of their locations and opening dates.

Medicare UCCs provide walk-in care, seven days a week, with no appointment or referral required. Clinics treat a range of conditions including minor fractures and sprains, cuts and wounds, infections, burns, and other illnesses or injuries that need urgent attention but are not life‑threatening.

The campaign is being delivered nationally across television, social media, digital, out of home and search channels, with tailored materials to ensure accessibility for First Nations and multicultural audiences.
