Swan Hill Rural City Council is investing in new and improved public amenities in Swan Hill and Robinvale, with works to commence in October 2025.
The first stage of project will see the replacement of the existing public toilet block on McCallum Street, Swan Hill. This facility has reached the end of its functional life, making it increasingly difficult to maintain and keep clean.
The new amenities will provide a safer, more accessible, and vandal resistant experience for all users. They will feature a larger, fully compliant all-abilities toilet, anti-graffiti and easy-to-clean surfaces, improved lighting and airflow and vandal-proof and waterwise fixtures and fittings.
Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, said the project demonstrates Council's commitment to providing modern, inclusive infrastructure that supports a growing and diverse community.
"These upgrades form part of our Public Convenience Strategy and are more than simply replacing old facilities.
"By redesigning the layout, we are improving functionality, reducing maintenance issues and ensuring our infrastructure continues to meet the needs of both our residents and visitors alike.
"To minimise disruption, the new building has been constructed off-site and will be craned into position following the demolition of the current facilities, significantly reducing the period of time the site is unavailable to the public," Ms Johnston added.
During construction, alternative public toilets will be available at the Comfort Centre, Swan Hill Town Hall, McCrae Street Public toilets as well as at Riverside Park and the Tourist Information Bay.
Council's Mayor, Cr Stuart King said in addition to the McCallum Street upgrade, a new accessible facility would also be installed at the new playground in Centenary Park, Robinvale. This facility forms part of stage 3 of the Centenary Park Development.
"Both projects are expected to be completed within the next few months. Council thanks the community for their patience and looks forward to unveiling these much-needed improvements soon," Cr King said.
