The Albanese and Allan Labor governments are making travel across Shepparton safer with a new roundabout transforming a busy intersection.
The $17 million project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government contributing $10 million under the Road Safety Program, and the Victorian Government contributing $7 million.
Major construction to build a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Midland Highway and Central Avenue in Shepparton East is now complete.
This will boost safety for motorists, including heavy vehicles travelling between Shepparton, Benalla and Wangaratta.
The new roundabout will also ensure the intersection is more visible and provides drivers with safer turning options to support an improved flow of traffic in all directions.
Temporary lighting and a speed reduction will remain in place until permanent lighting is switched on in the coming months.
Crews have planted a diverse mix of Australian plants and shrubs in the middle of the roundabout as part of the University of Melbourne's Woody Meadow Project.
The project supports landscaping works that promote flowering and create dense canopies to exclude weeds and encourage biodiversity while reducing maintenance costs.

As stated by Victorian Minister for Ports and Freight, Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne:
"We know there's a mix of both heavy and light vehicles sharing this section of the highway with the new roundabout enhancing safety for everyone."
As stated by Victorian Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes:
"We've reinforced the structure of the roundabout to ensure strength and durability and to facilitate heavy vehicle movements, including super loads."
