New social housing complex for Sunshine Coast

Minister for Communities and Housing, Minister for Digital Economy and Minister for the Arts The Honourable Leeanne Enoch

Work is underway on 33 new social housing homes in Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast.

Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt and Communities and Housing Minister Leeanne Enoch today visited the site that will soon see 33 townhouses built to provide homes for Queenslanders in need, including seniors, people with disability, singles, and couples.

"This project is being built through a partnership between the Palaszczuk Government and one of our valuable community housing providers Coast2Bay Housing Group," Mr Hunt said.

"The townhouses are made up of 17 one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom units and the complex also includes a community room.

"Some of the homes have been built to Gold Standard under the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, meaning they are designed to be accessible for people with mobility issues and allow residents to age in place.

"These townhouses reflect the generational shift from larger family homes to a demand for one and two-bedroom homes that meet local needs," he said.

"In addition to providing more social housing for the Sunshine Coast region, this $11.7 million project will support 29 full-time equivalent local jobs in the building and construction industry, as well as many more in the building supply chain."

Minister Enoch said working with community housing providers was part of the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to providing new social housing across Queensland.

"Community housing providers have an important role to play in delivering social and affordable homes at subsidised rates for low to moderate income earners," she said.

"The Coast2Bay Housing Group is an experienced provider and manages a social and affordable housing portfolio of more than 1000 homes across the Sunshine Coast including Noosa, as well as Moreton Bay, Redcliffe, and Gympie."

Coast2Bay Housing Group CEO Mr Andrew Elvin said we are very excited to be delivering more social and affordable housing to the Sunshine Coast in partnership with the Queensland Government.

"We are the largest community housing provider in this region, and we pride ourselves in delivering high quality, architecturally designed homes that people and families enjoy living in," he said.

"These townhouses will be more than a home, they will be a place for people to live affordably, be good neighbours, contribute to the community and be a place where families and individuals in need can flourish."

"Innovative partnerships like this one with the Queensland Government, make a very important contribution to social and affordable housing that meets community needs in growing regional areas such as the Sunshine Coast," Mr Elvin said.

Minister Enoch said Government investment in partnership with the community housing sector is part of our commitment to commence 7,400 new social and affordable homes over the next four years.

"The Beerwah project supports the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to deliver more affordable homes as part of the Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2021-2025.

"We look forward to continuing to work with Coast2Bay Housing Group to provide safe, secure and sustainable housing for Queenslanders."
