New Study Hubs Expand Student Pathways To University

Dept of Education, Skills and Employment

Fairfield Connect University Study Hub in New South Wales and Beenleigh University Study Hub in Queensland have officially opened under the Suburban University Study Hubs program, while Lumen Wheatbelt Regional University Study Hub Northam, Western Australia, and Kangaroo Island Study Hub in South Australia have launched as part of the Regional University Study Hubs program.

Suburban University Study Hubs remove barriers and support success in higher education for students in outer metropolitan areas, while Regional University Study Hubs enable students to pursue their studies closer to home.

University Study Hubs provide a range of facilities for students including access to quiet study spaces, computers, high-speed internet, break-out spaces and staff to provide student support services.

Northam Study Hub is one of 5 sites supported through Lumen Wheatbelt Regional University Study Hubs and the 8th Regional University Study Hub to open in Western Australia. The hub is expected to support up to 77 students with study spaces.

Kangaroo Island Study Hub is open 24 hours, 7 days a week and can support up to 75 students. It is one of 3 hubs (across 5 sites) supported through Murray River and Fleurieu Study Hubs.

Fairfield Connect University Study Hub provides around 220 study spaces with group areas, large training rooms and video conferencing facilities. The hub is currently open from 7am until 9pm on weekdays and 8am until 5pm on weekends.

Beenleigh University Study Hub currently supports 30 students and offers support services and study facilities such as meeting rooms, a training room and breakout areas. It is the second Suburban University Study Hub to open in Queensland following the opening of Strathpine University Study Hub earlier this year. Students can access the hub by swipe card from 8:30am to 9:00pm, 7 days a week.

Beenleigh student Leanne says the hub has allowed her to study her degree without the distractions of home life.

"I am so glad to have this space. At home I would be called away every ten minutes and end up doing everything half-heartedly and not getting much study done," Leanne said.

"The one thing when under pressure and stressed that I am giving up the fastest is study, but now with the hub, I can manage my study load, plan for my sessions and study in a good block of time, away from all distractions with true results. I am getting things done. It's such a relief and I am stoked I found this space."

In other hub news, two Regional University Study Hubs celebrated their graduating students with ceremonies recognising their achievements. CUC Goulburn honoured over 30 graduates, while CUC Maranoa celebrated its 39 successful students.

Across the country, 52 Regional University Study Hubs are now open, with, 4 hubs expected to open by early next year. Thirteen Suburban University Study Hubs are also operating nationwide, with the final 2 expected to open soon.
