AERO's new practice guides, 'Persistent disengaged and disruptive behaviour: Creating calm, focused classrooms' and 'Escalated behaviour: Creating calm, focused classrooms', are the latest in a series of resources funded by the Australian Government, designed to foster engaged learning environments.
Dr Jenny Donovan, AERO Chief Executive Officer said clear expectations and proactive approaches are key to helping students stay engaged.
All students deserve to learn in safe and supportive classrooms," Dr Donovan said.
These guides will help educators to employ proactive, preventative and responsive approaches that sustain calm classrooms and enable all students to focus on learning."
The resources will assist teachers and school leaders with:
- Creating calm learning environments.
- Helping to prevent emotional and behavioural escalation.
- Supporting students when escalation does occur.
- Understanding the phases of emotional and behavioural escalation.
- Supporting students to focus on learning when a range of factors impact their engagement and attention.
The guides also highlight the importance of teacher wellbeing and contain practical case studies and examples.
