Friday 11 February 202 2 NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN EASTWOOD GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT
The City of Ryde has engaged contractors to start construction on new traffic lights in Eastwood town centre which will help reduce chronic traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety in the area.
The new traffic lights will replace the existing pedestrian crossing at West Parade, adjacent to the Rowe Street Plaza.
The installation of the traffic lights at West Parade was one of the major recommendations of the independent Eastwood Traffic and Parking Study. This study identified traffic congestion and pedestrian safety as major issues that have impacted the town centre 's accessibility.
City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jordan Lane, said the new tra ffic lights reaffirmed Council's continued investment in improving the Eastwood town centre.
"Eastwood is a vibrant, multicultural town centre, but is hampered by chronic traffic congestion and poor accessibility for pedestrians," Clr Lane said.
"The ins tallation of the new traffic lights at West Parade will not only address these issues, but also increase safety for pedestrians and motorists alike. Crucially, this vital piece of traffic infrastructure will benefit the fantastic local businesses in Eastwo od by making it easier for shoppers to get around the town centre.

Construction of the new traffic lights will take place in three stages.
• Stage 1 (Eastwood Station side of street): installation of new traffic lights, traffic signal pits and pedestrian islands.
• Stage 2 (Rowe Street Plaza side of street): installation of new traffic lights, traffic signal pits.

• Stage 3 (both road lanes): road re -sheeting and line -marking.
Construction is expected to be completed by the middle of 2022, weat her permitting.
