New Tree Policy Takes Shape: Community Input Is Needed

Mornington Peninsula Shire is developing a brand-new policy that will see trees on the Peninsula better protected and looked after.

The draft Tree Management Policy explains how we care for trees across the Shire. It covers how we maintain and when necessary, remove trees on public land, roadsides and parks. It will also guide our decision making when trees pose a safety risk.

Acting Mayor Councillor Paul Pingiaro said: "A dedicated policy means our community can trust that we make decisions about trees consistently, transparently, and with safety as a priority.

"Trees help give the Peninsula its distinctive character - from the tall tree trails of the Red Hill hinterland to the mysterious mangroves along Western Port. Looking after them well is something our whole community cares about."

This is a draft policy, and input from our community will help shape the final version. Whether you're a resident, a landowner, or simply someone who loves the Peninsula's landscape, don't be afraid to come barking up our tree!

The consultation is open from 22 April, closing on 3 June, 2026.
