New Water Play Area Makes Splash In Sunbury

Hume City Council has celebrated the official opening of the new water play area at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre with a community event on Saturday 1 November.

The upgrade to the outdoor children's pool facilities at the Centre provides more options for kids and families that visit, as well as offering a modernised service.

New features of the outdoor space include:

  • accessible ramp and stair entry from the indoor facility to the outdoor water play equipment

  • a zero-depth splash pad with water features

  • a single, central water feature including slide and water bucket

  • shade sails over the water play equipment

  • a new plant room to service the water play equipment.

These were included in the design following extensive community consultation, which helped to decide on the most popular inclusions for the upgraded space.

Hume City Mayor Jarrod Bell got amongst the action with the community to celebrate the official opening, showing that the work of a Mayor never stops as he rode the slide in his suit and tie.

Council proudly invested more than $2 million into the project, co-funded by the Victorian Government for a total of $3.8 million, in support of inclusive spaces where families can come together, kids can be active, and everyone can enjoy the benefits of outdoor play.

We'd like to thank the Victorian Government and Member for Sunbury Josh Bull for helping to make this redevelopment possible.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Councillor Jarrod Bell:

"This project has from start to finish been a collaboration between council, the community and the Victorian Government, and I want to thank all parties for their support.
