We're installing 200 Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) baskets on public bins across Boroondara to help keep drink containers out of landfill and refunds in your pockets. The baskets support Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme, giving people a simple way to recycle eligible containers and claim a 10‑cent refund.
Check the map on our CDS bin baskets page to find out where the baskets are so far. Once we're finished installing them, you'll find them in 200 locations across Boroondara.
How it works
When you're out and about, drop your eligible containers (with the 10c mark on the label) in the basket instead of the bin.
These baskets are free for anyone to use. If you'd like to collect containers, simply take them from the basket to your nearest CDS refund point. You'll receive 10 cents for every eligible item. To check which containers are eligible or find your nearest refund point, visit the CDS Victoria website.
Why we're doing it
Drink containers are one of the most common items found in public waste bins, particularly in parks. When recycling bins are contaminated with general waste, many recyclable containers are sent to landfill.
By using the baskets and sharing the refund over the next year, you're helping us try new ways to keep our parks clean, protect local wildlife and reduce recycling contamination.
We're delivering this trial in partnership with Vic Return and it will be reviewed after 12 months. If it's successful, we may roll out more baskets across Boroondara.
