New York, NY - February 10, 2020 - New York City Mayor de Blasio has signed an executive order to transition New York City to an all-electric fleet by 2040.
Amy Davidsen, Executive Director of North America at international non-profit, The Climate Group, said:
"As the climate emergency escalates, it is exciting to see New York City, one of the biggest cities in the world, take the lead on driving forward electric transportation which will reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and help end our reliance on fossil fuels.
"Our latest report on our global electric vehicle initiative, EV100, shows that leading businesses such as Lime, Goldman Sachs, and Genentech are electrifying their fleets by 2030. The private sector is accelerating the transition to electric vehicles by sending a clear signal to the market that they want clean vehicles now.
"As we enter a critical decade for climate action, where emissions must be cut in half by 2030 to limit average global temperature rise to below 1.5°C (2.7°F), we welcome more businesses to increase their commitment to electric vehicles which will improve local and global communities."
New York City is a member of the Under2 Coalition, a global community of states and regional governments committed to climate action.
