Protecting communities is a priority for the Rockliff Liberal Government and today nine new North-West firefighting recruits begin their 15-week training course with the Tasmania Fire Service.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said it was great to meet these recruits today and learn about their diverse backgrounds, including a professional acrobat/circus performer, tradespeople, hospitality workers, former professional athlete and a teacher.
"The training will cover all aspects of being a truck-ready firefighter before they move to brigades in Burnie and Devonport to continue their on-the-job training to become fully qualified firefighters.
"Training will include a TFS induction, firefighting skills, remote and tanker-based bush firefighting, road crash rescue, structure firefighting, hazardous materials and other various emergency rescue incidents.
"Training will be based at the TFS Cambridge Training Facility, with some weeks conducted in the North and North-West, and the recruits will be stationed on the North-West following their graduation on 15 December in time to contribute to the bushfire season.
Minister Ellis wished the recruits good luck with their training and encouraged anyone who is interested in a great career, where you can protect your community, to consider the Tasmanian Fire Service.
The next state-wide recruit course begins in April 2024 and applications are now open at jobs.tas.gov.au.
