The search is on for everyday heroes who make our region thrive, with nominations now open for the 2027 Colac Otway Shire Community Awards.
The awards celebrate the individuals, groups and young people who make a lasting contribution to community life across Colac Otway through leadership, service, creativity and community spirit.
Mayor Jason Schram said many of our community champions don't seek recognition for what they do.
"A nomination is a simple way to acknowledge the positive impact someone has had on our community and ensure their efforts are recognised by the wider community," Cr Schram said
"We know there are incredible people doing great things right across the Shire, from our smaller townships to our larger communities, and we want to hear their stories.
"I encourage everyone to think about the people who inspire them, support others, or help strengthen community connections, and nominate them for a 2027 Community Award."
2027 Award Categories
Citizen of the Year - Local Impact Award
Celebrating people who lead with heart and create lasting change in their community.
Young Citizen of the Year - Rising Star Award
Recognising young trailblazers shaping the future of Colac Otway.
Community Service Leader - Helping Hands Award
Honouring people who uplift others through dedication and grassroots leadership.
Creative and Active Contribution Award - Culture & Connection Award
For individuals and groups who energise community life through creativity, sport and cultural engagement.
Nomination Criteria Highlights
- Nominees must live in or contribute meaningfully to Colac Otway Shire.
- Contributions may be in leadership, volunteering, youth development, arts, sport or community building.
- Nominations can be submitted online or via printed forms available at Council service centres.
- Nominees should reflect the spirit of the award category through innovation, dedication, creativity or community impact.
Nominations are now open and close on Monday 9 November 2026.
Award recipients will be announced and presented at Colac Otway Shire Council's 2027 Australia Day event, to be held at Cressy Aerodrome on 26 January.
