The Lord Chancellor has approved the reappointment of Dr John Sorabji and Kate Pasfield as non-judicial members of the Civil Justice Council.
The Lord Chancellor has approved the reappointments of Dr John Sorabji as a barrister member and Kate Pasfield as a legal aid member of the Civil Justice Council (CJC) for 3 years from 1 August 2025.
Kate Pasfield
Kate Pasfield is Director of Legal Aid Policy for the Legal Aid Practitioners Group. She was previously in private practice and the not-for-profit sector as a legal aid solicitor; specialising in housing and community care work.
John Sorabji
Dr John Sorabji is a barrister and an Associate Professor of Law at University College London (UCL). He is General Editor of The White Book and has previously served as Deputy Private Secretary to The King and advised senior members of the judiciary on various legal and constitutional matters.
The CJC is a statutory advisory body established under the Civil Procedure Act 1997. It convenes members of the judiciary, civil servants, legal professionals, and other representatives reflecting the diverse perspectives, sectoral interests, and specialist and professional expertise present within the civil justice system.
Appointments to the CJC are made by the Lord Chancellor and are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. These reappointments have been made in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
