Norfolk Island Regional Council Administration Extended

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The appointment of Norfolk Island Regional Council (NIRC) Administrators Mr Scott Mason and Mr Gary Mottau has been extended until 31 December 2026.

This extension will support effective governance and continuity of service delivery as Norfolk Island transitions to a new bespoke governance model.

The Australian Government remains committed to restoring local democracy on Norfolk Island, and ensuring the future Norfolk Island Assembly reflects the community's distinct needs and circumstances.

Mr Mason and Mr Mottau were originally appointed as Administrators for NIRC from 6 December 2024 to 31 December 2025.

It was also agreed to extend the timeline for the inaugural elections of the Assembly to ensure the community has time to engage meaningfully with the details of the new governance model, including the plan for the transition.

The NIRC continues to provide crucial services to the community while the Norfolk Island Governance Committee finalises the revenue structure and frameworks underpinning the future Norfolk Island Assembly.
