Northern Connector Community Day

South Australians are being invited to a Community Day to celebrate the upcoming completion of South Australia's largest road project, the $867 million Northern Connector, to be held on Sunday 16 February.

The Northern Connector Project has created 480 full time jobs each year during its construction and will reduce travel times and bust congestion in our northern suburbs.

"The Northern Connector is the biggest road project currently under construction in South Australia and has created almost 500 jobs per year since it began around four years ago," said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.

"The completion is something to celebrate and the Marshall Government has built a record $12.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure works over the next four years that will create thousands of jobs.

"The team are just putting the finishing touches on South Australia's new 110 km/h 15.5-kilometre six lane motorway that will unlock massive potential in our north and improve access to our regions.

"The Northern Connector will reduce travel times, bust congestion and improve access to our beautiful northern regions and productivity.

"Once this motorway opens the days of motorists being stuck in traffic on Port Wakefield Road between the South Road Superway and the Northern Expressway will be long gone.

"It will also mean motorists won't have to stop at a single traffic light between the South Road Superway and Gawler.

"The Community Day is about thanking people for their patience and also giving them a first hand look at their new road before it opens to traffic.

"People will also have an opportunity to have a guided of parts of the project in a number of tour buses we will provide on the day.

"Late last year we said the Northern Connector will open to traffic around early March and we are still on track for that."

Date of event: Sunday 16 February 2020, 11am to 3pm

Event Location: NorthHub 1277 -1291 Port Wakefield Road, Waterloo Corner SA

The Community Day will feature a number of key locations across the site compound and will include activities for children, a free sausage sizzle, live music, project machinery displays, CFS display with fund raising, sponsors displays and bus tours on loop to the Southern Interchange.
