Northern Territory Police have issued five men with Notices to Appear following a drug bust in Central Desert.
On Friday the 28 October 2022, local police intercepted a vehicle, carrying four men, attempting to travel into a remote community, northwest of Alice Springs. During a search of the vehicle, members located a quantity of cannabis and other drug paraphernalia.
All four men, aged between 23 and 25, were charged with drug possession and supply offences and will appear in court at a later date.
A short time later, police intercepted a second vehicle carrying two adults and three children. A search of the vehicle located a quantity of cannabis and a large number of small unused clip seal bags.
The man, aged 33, was issued a Notice to Appear for possess traffickable quantity and supply dangerous drug in an indigenous community. He is expected to appear in court a later date.
Acting Superintendent Daniel Bell said "The carriage of illicit substances into any community, but more particularly remote communities in the Northern Territory is an extremely serious offence.
"Police actively target these behaviours and will prosecute all persons detected engaging in this unlawful and harmful activity. This behaviour works in complete contradiction to the ongoing efforts of police, government and non-government agencies who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all community members who reside at and visit our regions."
