NSW Allocates $50K to Boost Western Sydney Fitness

NSW Minister for Health, Ryan Park, has today announced $50,000 in funding to help improve physical activity in communities across western Sydney.

The funding will support health promotion charity, WSYD Moving Ltd., to deliver a 12-month project focused on fostering collaboration and delivering targeted physical activity solutions for local western Sydney communities.

This project was launched at the WSYD Moving Symposium 2025 on yesterday at the Western Sydney Conference Centre, Penrith. The event brought together more than 250 leaders, practitioners and community voices.

Physical inactivity is a significant issue across NSW, particularly for children, and levels in western Sydney reflect a similar pattern.

With the population in western Sydney expected to continue growing, working towards getting the community more physically active is an important step to improving overall health outcomes for the future.

This project will contribute to existing initiatives by NSW Health and local health districts to improve population-level physical activity as part of the whole-of-government NSW Healthy Eating and Active Living Strategy 2022-2032.

"In Western Sydney, physical inactivity costs our region more than $1.5 billion every year. We can't solve this alone - it requires all of us working together.
