Almost one year since construction began, the Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment is taking shape, with significant work underway to set the foundations for the Hospital's new acute services building.
The Minns Labor Government is investing $138 million in the Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment, which will deliver modern and contemporary health facilities to meet the future health needs of the community.
The new two-storey acute services building will include an expanded emergency department, operating theatres and day surgery spaces, two new inpatient wards, a sterilising services unit, a new medical imaging service and a modern pharmacy.
Excavation works at the site are well progressed, and the concrete footings for the building's foundation have been installed. Concrete has started to be poured for the ground floor slab, which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, and will create the footprint of the new hospital building.
Almost 4,500 cubic metres of concrete will be used to create the structure for the new hospital building, nearly enough to fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Construction for the redevelopment is estimated to support about 250 direct jobs, with the potential to support hundreds of indirect jobs over the life of the project.
All hospital services will continue to operate during construction. The redevelopment is expected to be completed in late 2027.
The redevelopment is being delivered by Health Infrastructure, in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District and builder, Hansen Yuncken.
