NSW EV Plan Boosts Charging, Discounts

Australia's peak body for novated leasing said the NSW Government's new Electric Vehicle Strategy complements the federal government's Electric Car Discount in making cleaner, cheaper-to-run cars a reality for more Australians.

The 2026 NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy, released today, is backed by $100 million in funding and focuses on closing the charging gaps in regional, remote and suburban areas.

National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA) CEO Rohan Martin said aligning demand-side incentives with charging infrastructure is critical to accelerating EV uptake.

"We congratulate the NSW Government on their 2026 NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy and its $100 million investment to make EVs accessible to more Australians," Mr Martin said.

"The federal government's Electric Car Discount is doing critical work on affordability, removing the upfront price barrier that has long kept EVs out of reach for everyday Australians. Strategies and investments like the NSW Government's support the increased demand and uptake in EVs.

"Demand-side incentives and charging infrastructure is the combination that makes the EV transition a reality. Plugging the charging gap gives EV drivers somewhere to charge now and gives prospective buyers the confidence to make the switch.

"Australians are reminded at the bowser why EVs make financial sense. The Electric Car Discount is turning that curiosity into commitment, helping workers access an EV through their pre-tax salary with no upfront cost and immediate savings on fuel and running costs. But that proposition only stacks up if people can actually charge their vehicles.

"It's exactly right that the NSW Government's Strategy is prioritising charging infrastructure in the outer suburbs, and regional and remote communities. The EV Discount has been particularly popular in Sydney's outer suburbs including Kellyville, Marsden Park, Baulkham Hills and Westmead.

"The families and workers most exposed to fuel price volatility are often the same people depending on the Discount and novated leasing to make an electric car financially possible."
