NSW man charged over home invasion and firearms offences

A man will face court today charged with firearms offences and over an alleged home invasion in Sydney’s west more than two months ago, NSW Police say.

About 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2016, four armed men allegedly forced their way into a house on Piccolo Way, Shalvey, and forced a 51-year-old male resident to the ground.

Three other residents – a 45-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man, and a nine-year-old girl – were also home at the time. No one was injured.

Police will allege one of the men fired a shot into a television set, before taking the keys to a blue Holden Commodore.

Two men drove away in the Commodore, which was found burnt out at Oakhurst a short time later.

The incident is being investigated by detectives from State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad under Strike Force Tombolo.

Following extensive inquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested during a vehicle stop on Popondetta Road, Dharruk, about 8.45am today.

Shortly after, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Blackett.

Police located and seized ammunition, cash, cannabis, a NSW Police Force patch, documentation, and red and blue strobe lights.

The man was charged with specially aggravated break and enter, and commit serious indictable offence-weapon; fire firearm at dwelling-organised criminal activity; steal motor vehicle, two counts of damage property by fire, and 14 firearms-related offences.

A number of charges relate to items seized during a search warrant, which was executed at the home following a Firearms Prohibition Order search on Tuesday 5 July 2016.

He has been refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court tomorrow.

Investigations under Strike Force Tombolo are ongoing and detectives are continuing to attempt to identify and locate the other three men.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
