NSW police probe after man assaulted and robbed

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and robbed in St Johns Park yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police have been told between 3pm and 4.40pm (Friday 24 August 2018), a 65-year-old man was walking along Edensor Road, St Johns Park, when he was approached by an unknown person.

The man was assaulted and his backpack containing his wallet, identification cards and keys, was stolen.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were patrolling the area and found the man sitting on the footpath suffering head injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital, where it is expected he will undergo surgery for a suspected fractured eye socket.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist investigators to come forward.
