NSW police warn troublemakers ahead of A-League final

Police are urging football fans to plan their journey and stay safe ahead of the A-League Grand Final today, in which Sydney FC take on Melbourne Victory at Allianz Stadium, NSW Police say.

A high-visibility policing operation will be in place to ensure the safety of players, officials, and thousands of spectators expected at today’s match.

The operation involves officers from across the Sydney metropolitan area, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Operations Support Group (OSG), Police Transport Command, Licensing Police and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

Police have worked closely with stakeholders in the lead up to the grand final and will continue that work throughout the event to identify and target trouble makers, people engaging in anti-social behaviour and people who's actions put others at risk, to ensure all fans get to and from the stadium safely and are able to enjoy the event.

Commander of the Public Order and Riot Squad, Superintendent Donna Adney, urged fans to look out for their mates and enjoy the game safely.

"Police are focused on maintaining the safety and security of everyone involved in today’s event and we won’t tolerate anti-social behaviour or any type of violence," Superintendent Adney said.

"This is a family-friendly event and unruly fans will be ejected from the stadium and may face further police action.

"With several events taking place in the precinct, police are expecting large crowds and urge fans to allow extra travel time to and from the venue", said Supt Adney.
