The Northern Territory is today reporting a historical death of a woman in her 80s from COVID-19.

The woman was from Alice Springs, had underlying health conditions and passed away at home in April 2022.

The death was identified by NT Health's COVID-19 Surveillance Unit as part of a routine mortality audit. Today the COVID-19 Mortality Review Panel confirmed the death met the national guidelines for recording as a COVID-19 death.

The total number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic is 71.

There were 379 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the seven days to 4pm on 22 September 2022.

There are currently 11 patients in hospital. There is one patient requiring oxygen and no patients are in ICU.
