NT Police Pursue Leads on Alice Springs Car Thefts

Northern Territory Police are seeking information after 3 vehicles were stolen from one address in Alice Springs early this morning.

About 4.15am the Joint Emergency Service Communication Centre received a report that 2 vehicles had been stolen from an address in Ilparpa.

The residents had gone to bed about 12.30am but one woke shortly after 4:00am to discover that a Ford Ranger and Mazda CX9 were missing from their driveway.

It was also discovered that a Suzuki motorbike was missing.

The thieves had entered the home through a side door and found the keys to the vehicles inside the residence.

The Ford Ranger was spotted by police about 4:40am and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on Karnte Road before members of Strike Force Viper saw the vehicle turn onto a dirt track off Rubuntja Crescent.

The vehicle was recovered shortly after about 300m down the dirt track. The motor was still running with the keys inside and tyres deflated.

About 2 hours later, following information received from the K-9 police unit, the Mazda was found abandoned on a dirt track about 1km from Stephens Road.

A Suzuki DRZ motorcycle with NT registration number A8257 and with black and white decals remains outstanding.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call 131 444 and quote job NTP2400000112.
