NT set to transition from 'low risk' to 'very low risk' category

  • From 12.01am Monday, July 12, the Northern Territory is set to transition to 'very low risk' category, pending no further outbreaks
  • Cautious and careful approach, based on latest health advice, keeps WA safe
  • Following the latest public health advice, Western Australia's controlled interstate border is set to be safely adjusted, pending no further outbreaks, with travel from the Northern Territory permitted from 12.01am Monday, July 12.

    Under the 'very low risk' category, safe travel is permitted into WA subject to the following updated conditions:

    • completion of a G2G Pass declaration, stipulating the traveller does not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions they have been in over the previous 14 days;
    • all Perth Airport arrivals to undergo a health screening and temperature test;
    • travellers to be prepared to take a COVID-19 test at the airport COVID clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician (voluntary asymptomatic testing also available); and
    • land arrivals to be met at the border checkpoint, for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked.

    Other jurisdictions currently in the 'very low risk' category include South Australia, Tasmania Victoria and New Zealand. The Australian Capital Territory is in the 'low risk' category and New South Wales and Queensland are classified as 'medium risk'.

    People who have not yet undertaken 14 days in a 'very low risk' jurisdiction will not be able to enter WA through the Northern Territory under the 'very low risk' conditions. Travellers from New South Wales and Queensland are not permitted to enter WA, unless exempt.

    As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

    "Western Australia's controlled interstate border has proven time and time again to be effective in preventing the virus from spreading to WA from other jurisdictions.

    "Our cautious and sensible approach is helping keep Western Australians safe and strong.

    "Based on the latest health advice, we can transition the Northern Territory to 'very low risk' from Monday.

    "As we take this next step, it's an important reminder for Western Australians to stick to practising good hygiene, wash your hands, use hand sanitisers and physically distance where possible.

    "We will continue to monitor the situation in other States and seek health advice to determine if any further adjustments can be made to border controls in the future."
