NZ Police Arrest Man After Assault In Havelock North

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man following an assault at Guthrie Park in Havelock North on Friday 5 June.

The man was located and taken into custody without incident in Picton earlier today.

He is due to appear in the Blenheim District Court tomorrow facing three serious charges relating to the incident. Police have opposed his bail.

We wish to thank the public for the information that was provided to Police in relation to this incident, and for their ongoing support.

Police are providing the necessary ongoing support to the victim and their family following what was quite a distressing incident.

I want to acknowledge the work of Police staff across the Eastern, Wellington and Tasman districts for their collaborative work and swift apprehension of this person.

We know these incidents can cause a great amount of concern amongst our communities, and we urge people to remain alert.

If you are alone in a public place, take note of your surroundings and call 111 if you feel unsafe or notice anything suspicious.

Police are continuing to conduct reassurance patrols in the area surrounding Guthrie Park in Havelock North.
