The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Latin Chamber of Commerce (CAMACOL), based in Miami, today agreed to work together to promote dialogue, public-private partnerships, and inclusive economic development throughout the Americas.
Through this agreement, the two institutions will cooperate by exchanging information, providing technical assistance, and organizing joint activities in areas such as economic development, trade, market research, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the promotion of cultural, artistic, and communications initiatives. CAMACOL will also help raise awareness of OAS initiatives throughout its business network.
"One of our strategic objectives is to strengthen the OAS's relationship with the private sector. Not only because it plays a fundamental role in the economies of our countries, but also because it has a responsibility to our societies," said OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin during the signing ceremony at the headquarters of the hemispheric organization.
CAMACOL President José Chi noted that, with a 60-year history, his organization was a founding member of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 1979, which today brings together 300 chambers of commerce across the country. He also highlighted that CAMACOL is a member of the Hemispheric Congress of Chambers of Commerce of the Americas, which brings together most national chambers of commerce in Latin America and collectively represents nearly 900 chambers of commerce throughout the region. "With these resources and capabilities, together with the OAS's tremendous institutional strength, we hope to join forces to engage the private sector much more actively in the work of the Organization," he said.
The initiative seeks to strengthen trade, entrepreneurship, investment, and regional integration, in line with the priorities of the OAS and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
