The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), through the Office of the Assistant Secretary General, and Universidad Anáhuac México today launched the Anáhuac Hackathon 2026, "Multilateralism and Business in Global Development," an initiative that brings together young people to develop innovative solutions to regional challenges.
During the ceremony, held at the University's North Campus, the two institutions signed a General Cooperation Agreement to expand and ensure the continuity of their partnership.
The Chief of Staff to the OAS Assistant Secretary General, Gloria Uribe, speaking on behalf of Assistant Secretary General Laura Gil, highlighted the importance of renewing multilateralism through youth participation and collaboration among governments, businesses, universities, communities, and international organizations. "It is slow, imperfect, and sometimes frustrating, but there is no other way to address the challenges we share," she said.
Chief of Staff Uribe announced that the team presenting the best proposal will join the Youth Consultation Forum of the Office of the OAS Assistant Secretary General for one year. Its members will have the opportunity to contribute to decision-making processes, provide new perspectives, and help ensure that the Organization's work responds to the needs of communities across the Hemisphere.
The four-year agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in education, research, innovation, youth training, and the promotion of the inter-American system. It also provides for initiatives such as the Hackathon and the OAS Model, programs for public officials, applied research on the hemispheric agenda, and academic mobility. Following the ceremony, the company DSBELMEX presented the challenge that the teams will address. Their proposals will be evaluated during the second day of the event.
