If you're a learner driver or supervisor, here's an opportunity to be sure you'll start-out with the best possible knowledge and training methods, before taking to the road. On Sunday 22 October and Sunday 29 October, Council is offering two free Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers workshops, facilitated by Council's Road Safety Officer and former police officer Brian Speed.

Take part in the first workshop on Sunday

22 October to gain valuable insights and skills for safe driving and accident prevention, direct from an expert. Course content will cover the key components of low-risk driving and highlight the importance of positive feedback, to help you build confidence whether you're in the driver's seat or supervising someone learning to drive.

Council's Road Safety Officer, Brian Speed, says, "It's important to give our young drivers the best start possible. By equipping them with all the skills, and knowledge and by using the correct training methods, we have a better chance of keeping them safe while they gain more experience on the road."

"Not just for learner drivers, the course also explores the role of parents or other supervisors in establishing parameters and support for learner drivers," Brian says.

"We aim to create a positive environment for both the supervisor and learner driver."

Our second workshop is perfect for those lookingto build valuable driving experience and gain some log book hours. You won't want to miss the Learner Driver Log Book Runworkshop on Sunday, 29 October 2023. This course will cover all of the essential topics found in the Learner Driver Log Book and provide participants with the opportunity to ask local police any questions they may have about road safety rules, enforcement, and local road conditions. A great way to further your driving skills and knowledge in a safe and supportive environment.

After a short briefing learner drivers and their supervisors will drive along a planned route, to give the learner driver and their supervisor practical experience with a range of road conditions. We strive for a relaxed and friendly feel in our approach to sharing helpful experiences on local roads, and an RBT stop is included to familiarise new drivers with what to expect.

If you have a learner driver in your household, be quick to book for the last of these free workshops for 2023.
