G'day Australia Brings Global Travel Trade To Territory

NT Government

G'day Australia arrives in Darwin for what will be the biggest travel trade event to ever take place in the Top End.

As Tourism Australia's signature trade event for international travel agents, the city is about to welcome around 300 qualified Aussie Specialist agents from around the world.

G'day Australia will bring together over 500 attendees, including more than 130 Australian tourism businesses, agents, Tourism Australia and Tourism and Events NT staff, and other state tourism organisations.

Following the 2024 G'day Australia event in Perth, participating agents were estimated to have sold an additional $30 million in Australian holidays over the subsequent 12 months, demonstrating the potential for G'day Australia to generate bookings well beyond the event.

CEO of Tourism and Events NT Suzana Bishop said this is a significant opportunity for the Territory's tourism hospitality and retail industry to showcase the warmth and spirit of the NT.

"With 26 sellers showcasing their products and more than 130 Territory businesses providing services and experiences, G'day Australia is creating opportunities right across our visitor economy, from accommodation and dining to transport, retail and tours.

"These businesses will benefit from immediate spending while helping show international travel agents what makes a Territory holiday exceptional. That firsthand experience can translate into stronger recommendations, future bookings and lasting benefits for our industry."

The qualified Aussie Specialist agents hail from 17 markets including China, the US and Canada, UK and Europe, India, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia and New Zealand, and will spend about a week in the NT as part of the program. The travel agents will meet with Australian tourism operators face-to-face, attend networking events and take part in familiarisation visits in the NT to experience Australia's world class tourism offerings.

While agents attending G'day Australia already specialise in selling Australian holidays, many will be visiting Darwin, the Northern Territory and Australia for the first time. All agents will experience the Top End through a selection of day familiarisations, with some also taking part in extended tourism programs across the Top End and Red Centre, building their firsthand knowledge and confidence to promote and sell the Territory to international travellers.

Tourism Australia Managing Director, Robin Mack, said:

"We're extremely proud to deliver this event in partnership with the Northern Territory, home to stunning wilderness areas and National Parks including Uluru: iconic, instantly recognisable to visitors and culturally significant for our First Nations peoples.

"The Aussie Specialist Program is Tourism Australia's signature training program with 40,000 qualified travel agents selling Australia to the world through their exceptional knowledge of Australia's tourism offering.

"Together with our airline partners, we are bringing around 300 Aussie Specialist agents to Darwin, with more than half of them visiting Australia for the first time. Before and after the event, they will travel around the country to personally experience what Australia has to offer and increase their ability to encourage visitors to plan and book an unforgettable trip."

G'day Australia 2026 will be delivered by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism and Events NT and Official Airline Partner Singapore Airlines.
