Off-duty police officer assaulted, man charged, NSW

A man will appear in court next month after allegedly assaulting an off-duty police officer in Sydney’s south-west, NSW Police say.

About 3.45pm yesterday, (Thursday 30 August 2018), two off-duty police officers became involved in an altercation with a 20-year-old man at a service station on Richardson Road, Spring Farm.

Whilst police were attempting to arrest the man, the man punched the off-duty officer in the face.

Another off-duty officer – who was driving past – came to the assistance of the two off-duty police and brought the man under control.

The officer who was punched in the face was hospitalised for facial swelling and bruising. He has since been released from Liverpool Hospital.

The other officers received minor injuries.

A 20-year-old man received a cut above his eye and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard.

The man was released and taken back to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with common assault, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Picton Local Court on Tuesday 25 September 2018.
