Moira Shire's first-ever off-leash dog park has officially opened, giving our four-legged friends – and their humans – a brand-new space to run, sniff and socialise.

The new fully-fenced space at Colgan Park in Cobram was opened as part of a celebratory event held on Thursday 14 August. There were plenty of treats on offer for attendees – coffee and doughnuts for the humans, and puppacinos and a Best Presented Dog Award for the pooches.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the highly anticipated new park was a safe, welcoming place for dogs to play and socialise.

"The new off-leash dog park is a fantastic addition to Cobram's recreational spaces and an important project for our community," Dr Emonson said.

"It's a project that's not just about infrastructure – it's about connection, wellbeing, and creating spaces people love to use.

"It's a place where dogs can exercise freely and owners can connect with fellow pet lovers. We're thrilled to see the community embracing it from day one, and we hope residents and their four- legged friends continue to enjoy it for years to come."

The fully fenced facility at Colgan Park features modern amenities including dog agility equipment, shelter for owners, secure double-gated entry and exit areas, a river sand digging area, drinking fountain with integrated dog bowl, and dedicated waste disposal facilities.

The project has been supported through a $62,081 Victorian Government Living Local Regional Grants Program and a $10,000 donation from the Cobram Lions Club towards park furniture and dog agility equipment.
