Officer assaulted after man caught speeding over 45km/h, NSW

A man will face court after allegedly driving more than 45km/h over the speed limit, assaulting police and resisting arrest after he was stopped in Condell Park yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 9.30pm yesterday, officers from Bankstown Traffic & Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Augusta Street when they sighted a black Holden HSV Commodore sedan allegedly travelling more than 120km/h in a sign-posted 50km/h area.

Police stopped the vehicle on Antwerp Street where the driver allegedly became aggressive towards police and refused to exit the vehicle.

While arresting the man, he allegedly stuck a male officer in the face.

OC spray was deployed on the 21-year-old man before he was handcuffed and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The man was charged with exceed speed over 45km/h, drive manner dangerous, assault police, resist arrest (x2) and his driver’s licence was immediately suspended.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 22 March 2017.
