Officer Assaulted After Pursuit At Goulburn

A man will face court after a police officer was allegedly assaulted following a pursuit in the State's south.

Police will allege about 10.00pm on Wednesday 15 July 2026, an officer attached to The Hume Police District attempted to stop the driver of a black Volkswagen sedan on Range Road, Mummel, about 20 kilometres northwest of Goulburn.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, police initiated a pursuit.

Upon reaching a driveway in Pomeroy Mill Ford Road, Mummel, the driver exited the vehicle and allegedly threw a plastic resealable bag over the fence into the property.

A short time later the man was arrested, and whilst being led to the police vehicle, the man allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in the male officer sustaining a large laceration wound to his head.

Whilst the officer was disorientated, the man allegedly retrieved the plastic resealable bag and went inside the property.

A short time later, additional police resources arrived at scene, where medical aid was provided to the injured officer.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 56-year-old man inside the property and declared a crime scene but did not locate the plastic resealable bag. A search warrant was later executed at the property, resulting in police seizing a number of drug-related exhibits.

The 56-year-old man was conveyed to Goulburn Base Hospital under police guard for treatment for soft tissue injuries sustained during the initial arrest.

The injured officer received treatment at the same hospital for a head wound, which required seven surgical staples to seal the wound.

Approximately 11:00am yesterday (Thursday 16 July 2026), the 56-year-old man was released from Goulburn Hospital and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with 37 offences –

Supply prohibited drug (31 counts), supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, not stop vehicle when directed to do so, hinder or resist police officer in execution of duty, wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, escape police custody and do act intending to pervert the course of justice.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Friday 17 July 2026).
