Officer assaulted during arrest - Point Clare

A man will face court after allegedly assaulting an officer today on the Central Coast.

About 5.30pm (Saturday 17 April 2021), officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District attended a house in Sunnyside Avenue, Point Clare, following reports a man was behaving aggressively.

During attempts to restrain the man, he allegedly punched an officer in the face. A confrontation ensued, with police using OC spray to help subdue the man.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 18 April 2021).

A senior constable was treated for minor facial injuries.
