A police officer has been charged with traffic offences following a police pursuit at Penrith earlier this year.
About 7.45am on Wednesday 30 April 2025, officers were patrolling the Penrith area when they sighted a Mazda SUV on Jamison Road.
Police attempted to stop the Mazda - with fraudulent registration plates - on Thorton Drive; however, when the driver failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, the unmarked police vehicle – driven by a 27-year-old constable attached to a North West Metropolitan Region Command – allegedly drove over a median strip and onto the incorrect side of the road, intentionally colliding with the Mazda at the intersection of Mulgoa and Castlereagh Roads.
The Mazda has then collided with another vehicle; however, no injuries were reported.
Following the collision, senior police terminated the pursuit; however, the constable allegedly continued to pursue the Mazda onto Village Crescent, where the police vehicle collided with a parked SUV, rendering it undriveable.
An extensive search was conducted and the occupants of the Mazda, a 41-year-old man and 40-year-old woman, were arrested and charged. They remain before the courts.
Officers attached to a North West Metropolitan Region commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the pursuit.
Following inquiries, today (Tuesday 28 October 2025), the 27-year-old officer was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (two counts), and negligent driving no death or grievous bodily harm (two counts).
He was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Penrith Local Court on Thursday 11 December 2025.
The officer is being managed in the workplace and his employment status is under review.
