Officer Charged Over Online Child Abuse Material 18 October

A police officer will appear in court today after being charged over alleged online child abuse material.

In October 2025, officers attached to the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation into the dissemination of online child abuse material under Strike Force Hamonic.

Following inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at house in Sydney's southwest yesterday (Friday 17 October 2025), seizing electronic devices. The seized items will be forensically examined.

A 39-year-old man – a senior constable attached to a command in the South West Metropolitan Region – was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment.

He has since been released from hospital and was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with three offences – use carriage service – make available child abuse material.

The officer was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court later today (Saturday 18 October 2025).

The officer is suspended without pay and his employment status is under review.
