Officer Struck By Vehicle; Man Shot - Greenacre

A man has been shot after a police officer was struck by a vehicle in Sydney's south west overnight.

About 8:40pm (Wednesday 22 April 2026), officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) were patrolling the Punchbowl area when they saw a Toyota CHR – reportedly stolen from Riverwood – on Juno Parade.

The Toyota stopped in traffic at the intersection of Punchbowl Road, and when an officer approached the vehicle to arrest the driver, the vehicle accelerated, pinning the sergeant between two vehicles.

The officer discharged his firearm, striking the Toyota before it drove off.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the 39-year-old officer for injuries to his lower leg. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Just after 9.15pm, police were called to Thorn Street, Ryde, after reports an injured man had been seen walking along the street.

Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command attended and located the stolen Toyota abandoned on Richard Johnson Crescent before a man suffering a gunshot wound was located in the yard of a home on Squires Street, Ryde.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the 32-year-old man. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition where he remains under police guard.

Crime scenes have been established at Greenacre and Ryde, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
