Bicton Primary School's 1950s school hall is one step closer to a major refurbishment, with works commencing this September.
Education Minister Sabine Winton today announced $953,000 of refurbishments will be made, enabling the hall to host school activities and an out-of-school-hours care program, while still preserving the character of the building.
The refurbishment will include improvements to the building's entry, new exterior cladding, a fresh ceiling and kitchen, along with new flooring and windows.
Hoffman Architecture has designed the upgrade to the building's entry, which will benefit the community for generations to come.
Bidi Facility Services have started construction, with works on the hall expected to be completed in May 2026.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to providing modern education facilities for students throughout Western Australia.
"I'm pleased that these upgrades will ensure this school hall is fit-for-purpose for teachers, students, and families of Bicton Primary School.
"School halls play an important role for local communities and I look forward to seeing the upgrades once completed."
As stated by Bicton MLA Lisa O'Malley:
"Built in 1956, the Bicton Primary School hall is in dire need of an upgrade. I'm proud to see our local school receiving this support, and I know the Bicton community will be excited to see this work progress.
"As a strong advocate for our public school system, and as a parent who has seen their children go to their local public primary school, I am extremely proud that the Cook Labor Government is supporting our older public schools like Bicton Primary School.
"It's fantastic that one of our community's oldest shining examples of public education can continue to provide quality learning opportunities throughout Bicton and beyond."
