Old Dubbo Gaol taking home Silver award at NSW tourism awards

The 2022 NSW Tourism Awards were held at Luna Park in Sydney on Thursday night, 17 November 2022 with the Old Dubbo Gaol taking home a Silver award in the Cultural Tourism category.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Mathew Dickerson, Director of Community Culture and Places, Jane Bassingthwaighte, Manager Regional Experiences, Jamie Angus and Old Dubbo Gaol Operations Coordinator, Julie Webster attended the awards ceremony.

Councillor Dickerson was excited about the award: "Congratulations to the entire team at Old Dubbo Gaol for taking out Silver. What a fantastic achievement to be recognised as a cultural site of significance across the entire state."

"Thanks to the NSW Government and Destination NSW for making the awards possible and for hosting such a great awards ceremony at Luna Park. I would also like to congratulate Taronga Western Plains Zoo on their success of winning two gold awards for Major Tourism Attraction and Unique Accommodation for Zoofari Lodge," he said.

Old Dubbo Gaol Operations Coordinator Julie Webster reflected on the awards nomination: "Old Dubbo Gaol was really excited to be named as a finalists in the NSW Tourism Awards in the Cultural Tourism category. It was a great surprise for us to receive Silver in such a prestigious category."

"This was a great recognition of the improvements we have worked on over the past few years, to be able to showcase the heritage right in the heart of Dubbo. It was great for the tourism industry to come together again after a rough few years showing resilience and strength across NSW. We wish all of the National finalists the best of luck," Mrs Webster said.

Gold category winners of the 2022 NSW Tourism Awards will move on to represent NSW at the Australian Tourism Awards in Sydney in early 2023.
