One Door To Support, One Path To Change

NT Government

3 December 2025

The Finocchiaro CLP Government has today officially launched the Homelessness Central Intake Service, the first Territory-wide gateway to connect people experiencing homelessness with the support they need.

Minister for Children and Families Robyn Cahill, said the new service is already changing lives. "Homelessness Central Intake gives people one point of access to the help they need. Instead of repeating their story to multiple providers, they can tell their story once to the Intake Service who will then coordinate access to the support needed."

"The service is already making a difference by connecting people to the right help earlier and strengthening coordination across our homelessness services network," said Ms Cahill.

"We know that helping people into secure housing leads is critical to helping people onto a pathway for a better future including improved employment and educational opportunities."

Backed by a $11.8M over four years, the service is delivered by Lutheran Care with partners Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation, Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation and the Salvation Army. Operating through hubs in Darwin and Alice Springs, with Katherine and Tennant Creek to follow, it provides a coordinated entry point in each region, so Territorians no longer need to navigate multiple providers or repeat their story.

Since opening in November, the service has already generated 99 referrals to crisis accommodation, housing, health and specialist services. During Cyclone Fina, staff ensured people had timely access to shelters and safe accommodation, maintaining services before, during and after the event.

By introducing a single intake pathway, the CLP Finocchiaro Government is strengthening coordination across the homelessness system, reducing duplication, and delivering better outcomes for Territorians.
