Operation closure results in drug and firearms arrests

Investigators from the Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad have today closed a 12-month operation targeting drug and firearms offences committed across the Brisbane and Logan areas by a criminal syndicate.

As part of Operation Quebec Coyote, investigators working in partnership with Logan District Police and specialist units executed search warrants on nine properties in the Brisbane and South Eastern region.

During the operation police seized 12 firearms including shortened rifles, shot guns and an SKS rifle as well as methylamphetamine, MDMA, cannabis, three vehicles and $11,635 in cash as proceeds of crime.

Nine people were charged on 79 offences, including a 30-year-old man from Waterford West on trafficking in dangerous drugs and unlawful trafficking of weapons.

The man is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 23 and eight other offenders have been bailed to appear in court over the next few weeks.

"This protracted operation focused on disrupting and dismantling the illegal activities of this local syndicate," Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Gavin Pascoe of the Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad said.

"In particular the seizure of the 13 firearms will make our community a safer place."
