Operation Cover, South Australia

Operation Cover began on 7 February 2022 in an effort to ensure travellers are wearing masks while travelling on passenger transport services in South Australia.

As part of the requirements in the Emergency Management (Activities - General Direction No 3) (COVID-19) Direction, a person must not board or remain in a vehicle used for passenger transport service, unless the person is wearing a face mask (covering mouth and nose).

Operation Cover will mean compliance checks are being conducted on buses, trams and trains.

Although SA Police primarily take an education first approach, members of the public are reminded that not wearing a mask (without having an exemption) whilst travelling on a passenger transport service, may result in a $1090 fine.

Operation Cover will remain in effect until Sunday, 27 February 2022.
