Property crime continues to remain a top priority and focus for Cairns police as part of Operation Dryandra, which to date has seen 1174 offenders arrested on 4677 charges.
Of those 1174 people charged, 885 were juveniles and 289 adults with youth bail compliance one of the primary targets for police.
Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Hodgman said youth crime is a complex issue and needs a whole of community engagement to drive change.
"Disappointingly since the start of December, the District has seen an increase in offences such as burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, largely due to recidivist offenders," Acting Chief Superintendent Hodgman said.
"We remain committed to working with a specialist prosecutor in the courts to keep recidivist offenders in custody.
"There are thousands of young people in Cairns who go through cautions, restorative justice, conferencing when they first start to offend, and we never see them again.
"Currently we have 31 juveniles on bail who are checked on by police every single night to ensure compliance.
"Crime prevention also remains an important focus, 35% of burglaries were through insecure premises in the last month, so it's important we all play our part in keeping our property safe."
