Shellharbour City Council is calling all artists, designers and creatives! Expressions of Interest are now open for a variety of brand-new projects designed to expand and elevate Shellharbour's art scene.
Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer said Council was committed to implementing initiatives that contribute to a dynamic and vibrant city where creativity thrives.
"I am excited to see how these creative opportunities will impact emerging and established artists as they share their talents and enrich our local identity." Mayor Homer said.
The Incubator Artist Residencies is a short-term residency program based in The Imaginarium, a creative space located in Shellharbour Village.
The program will provide emerging artists, working in any form, with a dedicated space to test and explore, as well as develop their practice and create new work.
Successful applicants will receive four weeks exclusive access to The Imaginarium and a $5000 stipend toward artist fees and material costs. Artists will also have the opportunity to present work at one of the upcoming Shellharbour Rocks events.
Applications close on Sunday 4 September 2022.
Council is looking for artworks to enhance bus shelters throughout Shellharbour City, as part of Art in Unexpected Places.
This project aims to celebrate pockets of art in unusual locations as a unique way to showcase art and support local artists.
The selected artist will contribute to an artwork series that will be exhibited across four sites. The artists and artworks will change each quarter with new work, providing an opportunity to showcase a diverse range of artistic styles
The artwork should be unique, contemporary, have conceptual links to the surrounding area and reflect the people and place of each site.
Applications for this program have been extended and now close Wednesday 31 August.
Shellharbour boasts an ever-expanding array of murals by local and internationally-recognised artists in various public spaces from laneways to town centres.
Council is seeking artists who would like to be added to the Mural Artist Database, a tool to identify potential mural artists for future projects. These opportunities may be facilitated by Council, or in partnership with local businesses and developers.
Council's mural program has expanded rapidly over the past few years, and there are exciting plans for many more vibrant artworks around our city.
